House Appraisal

No, we're not selling right now, but one of our housing loans was up for renewal and at the last minute we decided to go with another lender. It was considered a rush so the new lender had to come appraise the house asap. We were given 24 hours before they showed up on our doorstep. I think I had a mild heart attack. If you have read previous posts, you know our three little ones have done some damage to the house and it would be impossible to be ready in 24 hours. So after a few phone calls, A was able to change the date to today. That gave us 4 days to do whatever we could to improve our house. We were nervous because the appraiser said she would not only tour and take pics of both in and outside of the house, but in every room and closet. She was checking the layout, square footage, type of shelving, appliances, and condition of flooring, walls, siding, etc. This was our first time doing this so we felt the stress.

It was a busy weekend as we tried to work on the house and watch Conference. On Monday, A went from work to umpiring two baseball games. On Tuesday, A got home about 7pm from picking up last minute things for the house. I tried to do as much as I could  during the day, but cleaning with the kids is like paddling upstream in white water rapids. Plus, I haven't been feeling well from my kidney. I've been moving pretty slow.

We worked hard in such a short amount of time. We had a few late nights, that's for sure. It was a miracle that we were able to complete the following:
 1) Patch and paint several holes and dents in the walls.
 2) Paint baseboards, doorways, windowsills and in front of tubs.
 3) Caulk at doorways throughout house and tubs.
 4) Scrub stains on the walls and ceilings.
 5) Finish painting E's bedroom.
 6) Fix dishwasher and countertop
 7) Buy a large rug to cover the back door flooring.
 8) Put beadboard up in kids' bathroom and frame the mirror. (I'll post on this one later.)
 9) Straighten up the garage a little...that's a huge task.
10) Clean, clean, clean (laundry, dishes, mopping, vacuum, dusting...)

We survived!! Today was the dreaded day and she came and left in a flurry. Phew! We think things went well despite the fact that we didn't get to several things. Will she see the hole in E's door? Will she see we haven't recaulked the windows? Will she notice we have holes in our screens? Will her eye be drawn to the stains in E's carpet from the toothpaste incident? We should have power washed our house?  Will any of this really matter? Has anyone else on the street completed upgrades?

Anyway...we're done. We're tired. Hopefully, the kids will keep the house clean for...today? Hmmm, wish us luck.
